Girls Trip More Than Just A Movie

This week we had the pleasure of seeing the hit movie Girls Trip. Having seen the trailer months ago it had us gripped from then, but nothing could have prepared us for the amount of tears of laughter this movie brought!!!

The private viewing was organised by blogger Rachael ukafrolista her platform is all about natural hair, beauty and women’s empowerment. The night was sponsored by designessentialsuk who provided each guest with lovely goodie bags, accompanied with some snacks and refreshments.

The four main characters are best friends Ryan(Regina Hall), Sasha(Queen Latifah), Lisa(Jada Pinkett Smith) and Dina(Tiffany Haddish) aka Flossy Posse!! A raunchy R-rated comedy that follows a very eventful trip to the Essence Festival.

Without spoiling it for those that haven’t watched it, you’ll be sure to see a lot of girly banter. For us we could relate and see different elements of our group in some of the characters, but check out our next podcast where we’ll be sure to go into further details!!

This film definitely brought the spotlight on actress Tiffany Haddish who shone right through the film as the wild friend Dina. She was the life and soul of the party and her ‘wild wild thoughts’, got the group caught up in all sorts of mischief. Although she has been on the scene for some time, we first discovered her a month back doing an interview on the Breakfast Club, where she got quite emotional when talking about her story, you can really see her being that friend that wears her heart on her sleeve, what you see, is what you get. Her recent appearance on Jimmy Kemmel live made us fall in love with her even more, where she shares the story of her buying a Louisiana swamp-boat tour through groupon for Will Smith and co-star Jada Pinkett-Smith. We look forward to seeing what comes up for her next.

And of course us being “ladies” what kind of film would it be if there wasn’t a little freaky action going on, which was brought to us in the form of this chocolate spice Kofi Siriboe! You might want to bring a fan, as we got to see a lot more than we bargained for! From the reaction of the whole cinema we were all very very satisfied with the visuals. (Hercules, Hercules, Hercules)

Our favourite part had to be the grapefruit moment. Lets just say there is nothing wrong with taking some extras into the bedroom and hell why not make it exciting, but just don’t do a Lisa, or the only thing you’ll be getting down with is you, yourself & I!!

Each of the characters brought something different and there wasn’t a dull moment. The commentary from the audience was price less, from the hmmm, heckles and laughter we were all up in our feelings but in a light hearted sort of way.

Girls Trip is more than just a movie it’s a movement, not only was it amazing to see four strong, successful black women come together and create magic, but from the reactions and energy in the cinema you could tell that we all could relate in some way or another to various parts of it. It really reflected the strength of women, sisterhood, life and all that comes with it,the good, the bad & ugly. But what was amazing, come what may, having friends that can be there through it all, is what gives us the ability to keep going!!
