“An occasion or situation that makes it possible to do something that you want to do or have to do, or the possibility of doing something.”
When you’re younger it seems as if you have all the time in the world. When opportunities come you often take them for granted, until it’s know longer there. I was listening to something on the radio the other day and the question a caller asked was, “If you could, would you go back and speak to the younger you, or go to the future you?” This question actually made me pause, I questioned myself, what would I do. Looking at all the opportunities I see around me now, would I inform my younger self to take more advantage of these things or peep into the future and see what my life would be like, knowing what I do now. I’m still undecided on my choice, but it did give me food for thought.
Is an opportunity destined for each individual?
I definitely think opportunities are a combination of your efforts, alongside predestination. You often hear of stories where a person was not even considering that particular path, but some how was in the right place at the right time. Some will say that it’s luck, but maybe for someone of faith such as myself, the thought of a higher being blessing you with this chance comes into play. With that being said, I still believe nothing works without hard work, dedication and consistency.
I think age and experience definitely makes you more wiser in terms of prioritising and makes you grab life by the reigns. Being an adult and even the process of going back to school has been a very trialling experience for me and I’m sure there are many others in my situation. It’s not easy to manage a full time job, follow your dreams and study. So if I could, maybe I would go back to my younger self and advise her to not take even the time I had for granted,no responsibilities, no stress of bills and to use it as a time to follow my dreams and take RISKS!!
For me this is a state of mind that defines someone who grinds for their dream. The type of person who will see opportunities where most people wont, even creating their own. This is a winning mentality from my point of view, as this is often a person who has literally started from the bottom and made an empire off of their own back. However I think you can adapt this mentality to your everyday life. I definitely think reading autobiography’s from people who inspire you or look fro them. reading their story may make you see things in a completely different light.
“To be able to use their brains to make it in this world.
They outsmart the smart, cunning, and has street smarts. They know how to get money and is skilled at doing it to. Also they can be so sly that they can sell you stuff you don’t need.”
Whatever stage you are at in life, just remember any opportunity that comes your way may not be there tomorrow, next week or even next year! Take advantage of the space you’re in, even if it’s a job you don’t like, take up any training that is there, shadow a manager and take on more responsibility. You never know when this will come in handy.
