The Power Of the P…..

So we are now in the third week of January, and studies show that this is the prime time where many of us fall off the quest of those “new years resolutions.” We start off on a high and only three weeks in many of us have given up the ghost on our journey of self discovery/growth!? Quite shocking!!! But as we discussed on the podcast recently, if you do not look at the reasons why you’re not hitting the goals, equip yourself with the right tools to help you at the peak moments when you want to throw in the towel, then seriously how do you expect to grow?!

Now i’m a firm believer in the power of the ‘P‘, and no this is not in reference to your lady assets, but in fact POSITIVITY!!! Don’t get me wrong, we all have our moments, where the human side of us kicks in. We doubt our abilities, fear of the unknown, and other influences effect our choices. However, if we do not challenge our mindset and yet there is still this desire within to do something more with our lives, then you have to ask yourself, “Am I really living?” Or have you allowed yourself to co exist in this planet we call earth blindfolded?  If we look at the bible story, the parable of the three servants; Matthew 25:14-30. The master entrusted his three servants with his money whilst he is away and gave each of them different amounts of silver. Although the text talks about money I perceived this to also be a metaphor for our gifts in life. So we all have gifts, some people know what they are, others are undiscovered or some we over look. As people we put particular talents on a peddle stool, such as singing, dancing, business, arts etc. But many of us have so many gifts that we take for granted. We have all been entrusted with one gift or another, but we often overlook them and expect more to be given. Just like the servant with the one talent, he didn’t make use of it it, but instead buried it in the dirt. So how do we expect to change or obtain success if we are not even utilising the little we have been given? I am or was guilty of this myself! Looking at others and expecting their success or wanting it when I was was not even stepping out or trying to discover/refine my talents.

But when I did things began to change, I discovered that I am good at advising and coaching people and have recently began my training as a career coach. Yes there are other things I am good at, but most of my life I realised I have been a source of encouragement, advice giver;small business development and the list goes on. I have always felt dissatisfied working for others, which has reflected in the time frames I have stayed at various work places, but there came a point where I was awakened and could not ignore the urges and the feelings.

“I describe it as feeling like a trapped bird in a cage and finally being freed!”

I think our downfall in life is us! We have to take more responsibility in what and who we as women allow into our lives! We are in control of our destinies and today I challenge you to take control of yours!! Don’t wait until  December 31st 2017 to decide to make changes, we can make changes daily. If today was not a good day then reflect on the lessons learned and use it to move forward and look forward to the new day ahead.
