Firstly I’d like to start by asking you a question, what makes you happy?
You’ll often find the answer to this question differs on an individual basis, and the list maybe long or short. Depending on what kind of day I’m having, my happiness requirements can be something a mundane as food, or just wanting to relax in a nice hot “hollywood bath” as one of my friends like to describe it.( This is a bath will lots of bubble, a lil music to set the ambience, and a glass of wine)
Is Happiness A Choice…?
I am a firm believer in mindset, as what you think regarding a matter determines how it effects you. Let me break it down, if I see wealth and materialistic items as a sign of success, I may feel negative towards where I am in life based on this perspective. However if I regarded good health, love and support from my loved ones as contentment, then I may enjoy the process of life even more than someone chasing cars, clothes and the jet set lifestyle. I in know way think aiming for a better life means your not happy, but what’s not healthy is the way in which many of use compare our importance and existence based on the treasures of this world.
‘Happiness, true happiness, is an inner quality. It is a state of mind. If your mind is at peace, you are happy. If your mind is at peace, but you have nothing else, you can be happy. If you have everything the world can give-pleasure,power, possessions-but lack peace of mind, you can never be happy.’
Often being happy for many is a constant battle, and I was once one of those people! I was happy when I had money, sad when I didn’t. I felt like the happiness of my day was only complete if everything always went my way. Reality check someone please! Life isn’t like that, things don’t always in fact a lot of the time doesn’t go according to the ideology/expectancy we have. To be honest at times I’m glad it doesn’t, why…..because a lot of us would not have the great experiences we have today, the strength we acquired through not having our way, and the wisdom. I think in order to stay positive and happy, one has to set themselves goals, but enjoy the process of life in the meantime. We have to learn also to live in our means. A lot of people suffer from depression and stress due to the pressure WE put on ourselves. Think about it, every day we are probed with images of this amazing lifestyle, through magazines, TV, social media, our peers, everywhere! You can’t escape it, unless you go a live on a remote island somewhere with limited forms of technology. But all jokes aside, happiness has to be an individual journey, you have to find the balance. We have to learn to be ok with the things we can not change, and somehow find ways to embrace it, and if we can change them understand that everything’s a process. We need to be like children again, the joy of a child seeing the life and the world as an adventure.
I know life isn’t always a silver lining, at there is a season for everything. But one thing I know is that I can only be the one who makes my own happy. By this I mean I surround myself with people who make me happy, I do things that I enjoy, like travelling, I decided I wasn’t happy with where I was in life so I changed my career and went back to school. I always knew love made me happy also so I made sure I was happy with the person I’m in a relationship with. But even if you’re single be happy alone, don’t force yourself to be with someone if they are not a source of joy, encouragement, love, the list goes on. But once you make the choice to just be happy as a mindset everything else will seem much easier.
Today I a going to choose to be happy, not because I got paid or because my hair looks good, or because I bought a new bag, but because I’m (say you name).
I am beautifully and wonderfully created, even if there are things I’m not happy about with my body, I won’t see it as a negative but I will work on them if i can. If I can not change them I want to learn to embrace them.
I am alive and I have been given another chance to make my life better. Each day is a blessing and when things don’t go my way it doesn’t mean my life is over. Each obstacle and mountain I face is a way of building my character and learning more about myself to make me stronger. There is a lesson to be learnt from everything in life.
Today /this week/month/year I want to achieve (say what you want to accomplish)
I will not give up on being happy, positive and making my life better.
Rome was not built in a day and I will be patient with myself.
